The question that a lot of people have been asking after Hurricane Ian is, 'should I stay or should I go?' As expected following such a major weather event, there are prospective buyers and residents for whom the concern of a repeated occurrence is too great, and their interests have turned elsewhere. But for each one of those people, there are more people awaiting the opportunity to enter the Sarasota market. And the same is true even in the areas where storm damage was more significant.

While real estate activity fell precipitously immediately following Ian because of understandable buyer hesitancy, there is now a 'burst' of interest from investors and builders who have a long-term view of the market. These buyers are now able to capitalize on market entry and begin projects that will appreciate significantly with the continued long-term influx of residents to our Gulf Coast communities. The optimism of these buyers is also a signal to prospective individual homeowners.
